Transportation services in several parts of Washington will have additional funding thanks to local sales tax rate increases.

Sales tax rates in several parts of Washington are on the move, on their way up to fund additional transportation services.

Chehalis, located midway between Olympia and Portland, Oregon, will establish a special Transportation Benefit District (TBD) in the city. As a result, the sales and use tax rate in Chehalis will increase by 0.2 percent, for a new combined rate of 8.2 percent. Revenue raised by the tax increase will fund transportation services.

Just east of Olympia, Lacey will also create a new TBD with a special tax to raise revenue for transportation services. Sales tax in Lacey will increase by 0.2 percent, for a new combined rate of 8.9 percent.

On the other side of the state, near the border with Idaho and Oregon, Garfield County will increase sales and use tax by 0.4 percent. The new combined rate in both Pomeroy and unincorporated areas will be 7.9 percent. As in Chehalis and Lacey, the tax increase will raise revenue for transportation.
