Connecticut: New penalties for delinquent filers in 2017

  • Nov 16, 2016 | Gail Cole

File taxes on time in Connecticut or lose your right to sell.

Beginning January 1, 2017, Connecticut taxpayers with any outstanding unfiled returns may not be able to renew seller’s permits, tobacco products licenses, or cigarette licenses.

Enacted Senate Bill 502 (Public Act No. 16-3) reads, in pertinent part:

“Prior to issuing or renewing the license of any person, the commissioner may determine whether such person has failed to file any returns required to be filed with the commissioner by such person. If the commissioner determines that such person has failed to file any required returns, the commissioner shall not issue a license to, or renew the license of, such person until such person files all outstanding returns or makes an arrangement satisfactory to the commissioner to file all outstanding returns.”

Put more simply: if you can’t pay what you owe when you owe it, you won’t be allowed to sell in Florida.

Tax automation software ensures taxpayers pay know what taxes are due when, facilitating compliance and decreasing the likelihood of filing late or inaccurate returns. Learn more.
