Georgia 2016 Sales Tax Holiday Proposed

  • Mar 8, 2016 | Gail Cole

Georgia considering two sales tax holidays in 2016.

Update 3.21.16: Governor Nathan Deal "applauds the passage of tax-relief legislation" HB 951, saying "Consumers across the state will benefit from the passage of this legislation."

The Georgia House has approved legislation seeking to create two sales tax holidays and an exemption for admissions to certain sporting events.

House Bill 951 would create:

  • A sales and use tax-free period for “eligible property” from July 30, 2016 through July 31, 2016.
  • A sales and use tax-free period for qualifying Energy Star or WaterSense products from September 30, 2016 through October 2, 2016.
  • A sales and use tax exemption for sales of admissions to nonrecurring major sporting events that are expected to generate over $50 million in the host locality.

The bill is now under consideration in the Senate. If approved, it could help Georgia secure a future Super Bowl.

Changing sales tax rates, rules and regulations make sales and use tax compliance even more challenging than it already is. Sales tax software (SaaS) makes it more manageable. Learn how it works.
