The rate of state and local sales tax in Ulster County, New York, will increase by 1%, effective February 1, 2014. The new combined rate will be 8%.
The increase is due to the passage of a bill that “extends the authority of the county of Ulster to impose an additional 1 percent sales and compensating use taxes…” between February 1 and December 31, 2014.
The bill also allows Ulster County to impose a 1% sales and compensating use tax between January 1, 2015 and November 30, 2015, provided the county assume responsibility “for the full local share of the Safety Net Assistance Program… and will not require towns and cities within its limits to contribute to the cost of this program.”
The new sales tax rate for Ulster County is listed on New York State Sales and Use Tax Rates by Jurisdiction, effective February 1, 2014, on the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance website.
