Purchasing cigarettes online, by mail, or by phone in Arizona may also have eventual, unanticipated side effects. Consider the rather cryptic message that appeared recently on the Arizona Department of Revenue. It reads:

“If you have been purchasing cigarettes prior to August 12, 2012; over the internet, by phone or mail order, you may be receiving a letter from the Cigarette Tax Unit.

For voluntary compliance, please call (602) 716-6230 and penalties may be waived.
