This Monday Idaho Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter spoke out in favor of requiring online retailers to collect and remit sales tax, according to boston.com. Otter made these comments to the Idaho Chamber of Commerce leaders in Boise.
Currently Idaho law already requires Internet Retailers who “do business” in Idaho to collect and remit sales tax to the state. A retailer “does business” in Idaho when they have nexus there, for instance, if they have a warehouse or salesperson in the state. It remains to be seen how the Governor will encourage the state to enforce this law, or if he wants to see additional legislation.
