New Hampshire Warns: Sales Tax Certificate Scam

The New Hampshire Attorney General’s office released a consumer alert warning that a fraudulent website is attempting to sell “New Hampshire Retail Sales Tax Certificates” to state residents. However, New Hampshire does not collect retail sales tax.

According to Attorney General Michael A. Delaney and DOR Commissioner Kevin Clougherty, the site masquerades as an official New Hampshire Department of Revenue website.

The alert summarizes:

The individuals behind this website are conducting a scam operation and are attempting acts of theft by falsely asserting that state law requires these certificates to do business in this state.
